Power on but won't boot up~ Dell Latitude D620 Please help!?

I recently installed Google sketch and Windows Movie Maker 11 on my Latitude D620 that's running Windows 7. I made a slide show for the family yesterday and paused the movie maker slideshow (on battery - not plugged in) and I tried to turn the laptop back on a couple hours later and the power turned on but wouldn't boot. After waiting a while and trying to turn it on again (with the power cord plugged in) it booted and we finished watching the slide show I made.

Then today I turned on the laptop and the same thing has happened- POWER TURNS ON BUT WON'T BOOT. The cd rom (?) drive will engage and if I push the eject button it will open. I'm so scared that something is seriously wrong. My warranty was up last june and since I'm the second owner I don't have any of the original disks and I really really don't want to lose my data. Please help if there's any way....

I'm not a computer genius but I'll try any suggestions- thank you

You can follow this method. First, to determine whats the problem, if you have any working monitor, plug the monitor cable to your laptop vga socket. Make sure you the monitor is working, and have power to turn on. If you can see a display, the laptop screen might be the problem (but the problem also can be from the laptop cable it self.

If it is blank screen, try goto BIOS (press F2 if im not mistaken) and leave your laptop on BIOS section at least 10minutes. If nothing happen, your laptop is working fine, but the Windows it self is the problem. The boot file might get corrupted or missing. Just insert your CD/DVD of Windows 7 and repair. If you don't have them, download Recovery Disc. Goto to link below.

If the 1st method does not work, remove the RAM one bye one. If you only have 1 RAM in 1 slot, change it to another RAM or insert it to another slot. This is the worst thing, the motherboard is DEAD. Why it worst? This is because laptop motherboard is really expensive. AND they are many thing causing this problem like failure video card, inverter, lcd lamp, etc.

If your Windows cannot be repaired and need to reformat, use linux live cd to recover your data. It will boot from the cd not from the laptop hdd. It boot from the CD but it can show you any files (hopely including your files/data) in your laptop hdd and other partitions. When you reach the desktop session, find your data and transfer it to pendrive or other storage.Power on but won't boot up~ Dell Latitude D620 Please help!?
