Why has every other row of pixels on my computer died?

When I turned on my computer a few days ago every other row of pixels had died. My computer model is a Dell Latitude D620. I am pretty sure that it is hardware issue because when I turn the computer on the the pixels are still dead on the start up screen. I have tried restarting the computer with no success. I have also tried to Google it but have not found anything. Please help! Why has every other row of pixels on my computer died?
Assuming you have a desktop computer (and so the monitor is its own separate component), if you got a spare or extra computer, you could try to hook up the other computer to this monitor. Then you would be able to determine whether it's your computer (maybe its your graphics card and/or driver that's failing) or if it's the monitor.

If the monitor doesn't work with any computer, then I'd guess it's broken. Nothing lasts forever, so monitors have to break sometimes; however, I admit I've never seen a monitor fail like that.
LCD display could be going out. Or the connection of the panel to the motherboard could have come loose. If you are handy, you should be able to get to the connector by removing your keyboard, and minimal other components, to make sure it's connected well.

Being that it is a large number of pixels in multiple rows or columns, that suggest to me that the problem isn't in the panel itself, but rather in the connection to the panel, either where the panel connects to the control wires (usually a large ribbon at the top with many wires, permanently affixed to the panel) or where the control wires connect to the motherboard (mentioned above), or a damaged wire somewhere in between.

Theoretically, it could be in the panel control hardware itself (the "draw" circuitry), but i'd be more inclined to think that if that went out, you wouldn't get results like you're seeing. Why has every other row of pixels on my computer died?
It may be your monitor. Why has every other row of pixels on my computer died?
I'm taking it that you're talking about a desktop monitor. The most simple test would be to unhook your monitor and go to a friend's house that has a desktop computer, and connect your monitor to their computer to see if the results are the same. If the monitor has these same rows of pixels not showing, then you've likely found out that the problem is the monitor and not any hardware or software in the processor. If a friend has an extra monitor that you could connect to your processor, and it works fine, then you can begin the search for a new monitor. This is rather unusual for a monitor to go bad concerning a pixel problem like you describe, but I suppose anything can happen these days. You could always try a System Restore and choose a restore point to a point in time just prior to the computer monitor acting up like this. It could be possible that some Windows or other update is causing the problem. I just had a situation where my sound quit working. I thought it was the audio card gone bad. I tried checking the driver and a couple other things, still no sound. Since I had installed some Windows Updates the day before, I went back prior to that restore point and did a System Restore. Rebooted and I had my sound back. I went back again and reinstalled the Windows Updates from the day before, and I still have sound. The only thing I can figure is that one of the Windows Updates didn't download or install correctly

( although there was no indication of this ). Hope one of these things will work for you. Good luck!
