Ubuntu google chrome help?

I use ubuntu 8.10 currently; Dell latitude c400.

Ive been lagging like crazy whenever i open google chrome, It tends to drain all my computer memory and it causes the computer to overheat and just completely shut off.

I Can't figure out whats causing this problem, its annoying to deal with basically whenever i open google chrome everything is laggy same goes with all my other internet browsers.

Example: When i play browser games or mmorpg's lag is insane i disconnect without even connectining onto the game like Runescape.

Has anyone encountered this before? if so please help me.Ubuntu google chrome help?
Ubuntu 8.10 is now unsupported so the first thing I would suggest is an upgrade to at least Ubuntu 9.04

Note this is Beta software so there may be issues.

If you want to go for a new Full installation of Linux I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 8 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.10 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 8 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

Linux Mint 8 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive
