How did I violate community guidelines by trying to help?

Eric C asked the question "whats is London longitude and latitude?" and I told him "I don't know right now but go to google earth and find out!" and I was violated and want to know why, and if you think I did wrong by informing him where he can find the information he was looking for? I think it's BULL myself! What do you think? How did I violate community guidelines by trying to help?
It was probably someone who wanted others to do their homework and you suggested that he go to the trouble of looking it up himself. He likely reported you. On the other hand, he may have just clicked on the report button accidently. Either way, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
Hi Eric,

I think maybe you were violating guidelines because this 'Answers' service is a part of the Yahoo online presence but you referred to Google earth? Perhaps the word "Google" was a violation? The mention of a non Yahoo product? Esp when it is another major search engine in use besides Yahoo? In this case, Google?

Well I won't say I don't know..... but I will not say I am totally 100% sure.

This is just my logical guess.

Sometimes in the business world, there are competitors.

And the search engines online are also in the game of profitability and hence, e-business?

Maybe you can write in to Yahoo to ask the reason why you were violating guidelines. Normally Yahoo is quite prompt in replying to customers' questions. Try that. You may feel better.

Don't let it affect you too much ok. I don't think it is anything you should take too personally.

Another good reason why you were violating, as mentioned in the earlier response, you could be relpying with an "I don't know" and not giving any real concrete answers to the question. I guess if this is so, then i suppose there probably had to be measures in place to prevent abuse of the system of getting 2 points for replying to a question. How did I violate community guidelines by trying to help?
Sounds more like a chatting thing then giving an answer. You can look it up and give the Source. You could NOT ANSWER. There are far better options then say oh look it up yourself. Saying you don't know the answer is a violation, because you aren't giving a real answer. How did I violate community guidelines by trying to help?
Posting "I do not know" answers is called gaming and cheating Posting anything for the two points. Answers must be knowledgeable and directed toward the question. Read the guidelines and you would know the answer
Where was this? Whose community guidelines are you talking about?
If he had asked how to find the information, that would have been a splendid answer.
