Tracking your kids with Google Latitude?

Question to parents and would-be parent(s)

Is tracking your kids with Google Latitude a good way to make sure your kids are safe and staying out of trouble, or is it simply taking it too far?

Google Latitude is a feature for Google Maps which uses your cell phone鈥檚 GPS to enable you to (from Google):

Share your location and status updates with the friends you choose ... See on a map where your friends are and what they鈥檙e up to ... Quickly contact them with text message, instant message, or phone call ... Control how much or how little location info you want to share with whomever you choose.

Is it something you would do?

How about a boyfriend/girlfriend or a significant other? Would you use this technology to tract someone down?Tracking your kids with Google Latitude?
Track. Not "tract", which is a piece of land.

How would knowing where they were enable you in any way to keep them safer? At best, you could punish them later if they weren't where you wanted them to be.

But if they were in trouble, or in danger, then knowing WHERE isn't going to stop them from facing the danger. If an aligator is eating your child, and you track them down via GPS, it won't make them any more alive when you get there.

Think about it.

And tracking a lover? That's a sure way to get dumped, and fast. If a woman did that to me she'd be lucky to keep her spleen.

If you can't trust someone, then don't mate with them.
